About Pigeon

๐Ÿ“–Biology and behaviour

Feral pigeons are a common problem on Indian balconies, window ledges, ACs, rooftops, factory sheds and old buildings. They are drawn to ledges where they can roost, nest and find grain or food scraps. A small flock can quickly turn a sheltered balcony into a nest site.

Their droppings are the main concern. They stain and can damage building surfaces, block gutters and drains, and when dry they can release dust that can carry fungal spores and cause lung infections in some people. Feathers, nests and droppings also attract mites and other pests.

  • Feathers and blocked gutters or drains
  • Birds returning to the same ledge every day

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธHow to prevent it

  • Stop feeding birds on balconies and terraces
  • Fit bird netting on balconies, ducts and AC niches

  • Block gaps in roofs, sheds and false ceilings
  • Clean droppings regularly while wearing a mask and gloves, and wash with disinfectant
  • Remove nests and eggs early, following local rules

How Pigeon is controlled

Integrated approach

๐ŸงชControl methods

Bird control relies on exclusion (netting, spikes, wire systems) and habitat modification (removing nesting material and food sources) rather than chemical treatment โ€” a licensed bird-control specialist can design a system suited to the building.

๐Ÿ‘ทWhen to call a professional

Netting and proofing on tall buildings or large sheds need trained, safely equipped staff. A PCO or bird-proofing specialist can recommend humane exclusion methods that are durable. Avoid methods that harm birds.

Common questions about Pigeon

Are pigeon droppings harmful?

Dry droppings can release dust that may carry fungal spores. Avoid sweeping dry droppings, wear a mask and gloves, damp the area first and disinfect.

What is the most effective way to keep pigeons away?

Physical barriers such as netting and spikes work best, together with stopping feeding. Scare devices usually work only for a short time.

Can I remove pigeon nests myself?

Small nests on your balcony can be removed carefully with protection. For high or large areas, hire a trained professional.

Will repellent gels work?

They may help on small ledges for a while but weather and dirt reduce their effect. Netting is the longer-term answer.
