About Aedes Mosquito
📖Biology and behaviour
Aedes mosquitoes, mainly Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, spread dengue, chikungunya and Zika. They are easy to recognise by their black body with white stripes on the legs, and unlike most mosquitoes they bite during the day, with peaks in the morning and late afternoon.
They breed in small, clean, still water: coolers, flower pots and plates, discarded tyres, buckets, uncovered tanks, bottle caps, plant saucers and clogged rooftop gutters. Eggs stick to the container walls and can survive dry weather for months, then hatch when rain refills the container. They fly only short distances, so the mosquitoes biting you usually breed within a few hundred metres of your home.

Signs of Aedes Mosquito
What to look for, and how to prevent it🔎How to spot an infestation
- Day-time bites on the ankles, legs and arms, even indoors
- Small, wriggling larvae in coolers, pots, buckets and tanks
- Standing water in tyres, plates, rooftop gutters and discarded containers
- A rise in fever cases in the neighbourhood after the monsoon
- Mosquitoes resting in dark corners under beds and behind curtains
🛡️How to prevent it
- Empty and scrub every container that holds water at least once a week, including cooler trays and pot plates
- Cover water tanks and drums tightly, and fit fine mesh on vents
- Clear rooftop gutters, tyres and construction pits where rain collects
- Use window and door screens, and wear long clothing at peak biting times
- Use repellents or bed nets for children and the elderly when needed
- Report neglected sites to your society or municipal health department
How Aedes Mosquito is controlled
Integrated approach🧪Control methods
Source reduction (eliminating standing water on a weekly cycle) is the single most effective step, supported by larvicide treatment of water that can't be drained, and adulticide fogging or space-spraying by a licensed PCO during high-activity periods.
👷When to call a professional
Fogging alone does not stop Aedes because the larvae stay in water. A professional programme combines source reduction, larval control where water cannot be removed and targeted treatment of indoor resting places. For societies, factories and construction sites a PCO can plan a regular schedule.

Common questions about Aedes Mosquito
Why does the dengue mosquito bite in the daytime?
Aedes aegypti is a day biter, most active in the early morning and late afternoon. This is why mosquito coils at night do not protect against it and why indoor screens and repellents help all day.
What is the single best step against dengue mosquitoes?
Remove their breeding sites. Emptying and scrubbing every water-holding container each week breaks the cycle, because eggs and larvae cannot survive without water.
Does fogging kill Aedes?
Fogging kills adult mosquitoes that are flying at that moment. It does not remove larvae or eggs, so it must be combined with source reduction and regular follow-up.
How far do Aedes mosquitoes travel?
Usually only a short distance, often within a few hundred metres. So the breeding source is normally close, in your own home, a neighbour's plot or a nearby construction site.
